THE IGBO CLERGY IN ALLIANCE WITH JUJU PRIESTS

To all Igbo Christians: Our culture is our way of life - but nothing is absolutely more dangerous as lack of courage when courage is most needed than ever before.

A prominent Igbo writer once defined Igbo people as a race which sleep with one eye open on Igbo juju-bed of Osu and Diala dilemma.

"With ninety five percent Igbo population Christians, with thousands of Igbo clergy parading the nooks and corners of Igbo-land, with the degree of day and night crusaders, and evangelization going on in Igbo-land, why do the rules and promulgations of idolatry made by Igbo juju priest still hold the Christians to satanic bondage? Why are the Igbo Christians still religiously obedient to the rules of idols?" Dr Ezeala. I personally agree that cleansing the Igbo tribe of all traces of idolatry is the primary function of the Igbo clergy. I'm talking about the Igbo priests, pastors, bishops, apostles of all Christian dominions (no exception).

These are principal actors and suppose to be mediators for congregational question. Let us not discuss what these group say..... What have they done? How long shall the Igbo Christians feed on idolatry while the clergy in admiration choose the part of neutrality? Where are the fore-runners of Christ when "I am thy Lord thy God, and thou shall not have another god than me" become just another meaningless folks proclamations?

Stop Osu Solidarity challenges the Igbo animist clergy to the record of St. Paul a true Christian missionary. St. Paul was not among the twelve apostles, but - outstanding to the same words "CALLED TO CHRIST" and "SPIRITUAL VOCATION" which I know the Igbo clergy verbally like to imitate.

The Igbo clergy refused to separate traditional religion, pagan rituals, respect and obedience to the dictates of Igbo deities from the principal of Christian dogma. In the past, the Igbo communities fought inter-village wars and were engaged in all sort of supremacy disputes. They created and elevated images and idol statues to protect them. They hide or house these image-gods in juju forests, shrines, market places and treat them with fear and reverence.

To appease these gods, our fore-fathers in their ignorance slaughtered in the most primitive and horrifying styles animals and fellow humans in sacrifice. They call on them for help and protection when they have toothache and when they fail to understand the mechanization of water vaporization and or when their wives give birth to twins.

That these images of gods continue to exist and control the activities of Christians in Igbo land is the evidence of failure on the side of the Igbo Christian leadership. They certainly know that they regularly host a congregation half pagan - but who is to be blamed?

The silence of the Igbo clergy is equal to being guilty of acquiescence. A man who fail to speak when he is suppose to speak or fail to do when he is suppose to do something is guilty of acquiescence and of condonation.

Are the Igbo Clergy and Christians afraid of man made deites and symbols like this?
